😢 About La Llorona — The Legend
La Llorona is perhaps the most universally known legend in Latin America. She is the ghost of a woman named María who, in a moment of madness and grief, drowned her own children in a river. Now condemned to wander forever, she roams the streets at night crying out for them — “¡Ay, mis hijos!” (Oh, my children!). Parents use this legend to warn children not to go out alone at night.
The legend varies by country and region, but the essence is always the same — a woman consumed by grief, guilt, and the desperate search for redemption. Despite her terrifying reputation, La Llorona is also a deeply tragic and sympathetic figure.

Soy la Llorona
Mi nombre es María, y soy la Llorona. Soy un fantasma que vaga por las calles de México en busca de mis hijos, a los que maté en un ataque de locura.
Nací en una pequeña aldea de México. Era una niña feliz y tranquila, y siempre me encantaba jugar con mis hijos, Juan y María.
Cuando crecí, me casé con un hombre llamado Pedro. Era un hombre cruel y abusivo, y me hacía la vida imposible.
Un día, Pedro me encontró con otro hombre. En un ataque de celos, lo mató a golpes. Luego, me fui a casa y ahogué a mis hijos en un río.
Cuando me di cuenta de lo que había hecho, me quedé horrorizada. Me sentí tan culpable y arrepentida que decidí suicidarme.
Me ahorqué en un árbol, y mi alma quedó atrapada en el lugar donde morí.
Ahora, vagabundeo por las calles de México, buscando a mis hijos. Lloro su pérdida, y pido perdón por lo que hice.
Mi grito se escucha en las noches oscuras, y mi presencia aterroriza a los niños. Soy una figura de miedo y superstición, pero también soy una figura de pena y arrepentimiento.
Una vez, me encontré con un niño en la calle. Era un niño pequeño, y tenía miedo de mí.
— ¿Quién eres? — me preguntó.
— Soy la Llorona — respondí.
El niño comenzó a llorar.
— No me hagas daño — me dijo.
Me sentí mal por asustarlo.
— No te haré daño — le dije.
El niño se calmó un poco.
— ¿Por qué lloras? — le pregunté.
— Estoy perdido — me dijo.
Me ofrecí a ayudarlo a encontrar a sus padres. Lo acompañé por las calles, y finalmente encontramos a sus padres.
Los padres del niño estaban muy agradecidos conmigo.
— Gracias por ayudar a nuestro hijo — me dijeron.
Me sentí feliz de haber podido ayudar al niño.
Tal vez algún día pueda encontrar a mis hijos. Tal vez algún día pueda encontrar la paz.
