El Mohán is one of the most iconic figures in Colombian folklore. He is described as a large, hairy man with long wild hair covering most of his body, glowing eyes, and long sharp fingernails. He lives in the rivers and jungles of Colombia — especially along the Magdalena River — and is feared by fishermen, travelers, and anyone who dares to get too close to his territory.
The legend says he was once a young man who fell deeply in love, but was forbidden from being with the woman he loved. Heartbroken and rejected, he retreated into the jungle and transformed into a supernatural being, dedicating his existence to protecting his lost love and taking revenge on those who disturb him.

Yo soy el Mohán
Me llamo Luis, y soy el Mohán. Soy un ser de la mitología colombiana, que habita en los ríos y selvas del país. Soy un hombre corpulento, con una abundante, larga y descuidada cabellera con la que cubro gran parte de mi cuerpo. Otras veces cuentan que soy un ser musgoso, de ojos brillantes y uñas largas y afiladas.
Nací en una pequeña aldea a orillas del río Magdalena. Era un niño feliz y aventurero, y me encantaba nadar en el río.
Un día, cuando tenía 16 años, estaba nadando en el río cuando vi a una hermosa mujer que se bañaba en la orilla. La mujer era tan bella que me enamoré de ella a primera vista.
Me acerqué a la mujer y le hablé. La mujer se sorprendió al verme, pero también se sintió atraída por mí.
Empezamos a vernos a escondidas. Nos enamorábamos profundamente, y nos prometimos amor eterno.
Un día, el padre de la mujer descubrió nuestra relación. El padre era un hombre rico y poderoso, y no quería que su hija se casara con un pescador pobre.
El padre de la mujer le prohibió a su hija volver a verme. La mujer estaba muy triste, pero no podía desobedecer a su padre.
Yo estaba devastado. No podía creer que la mujer que amaba me hubiera abandonado.
Me refugié en la selva, y juré que nunca volvería a ver a la mujer que amaba.
Con el tiempo, me transformé en un ser sobrenatural. Mi cuerpo se llenó de pelo, y mi rostro se volvió tosco y feroz.
Ahora vivo en el río, donde me vengo de los hombres que se acercan a mi amada.
Una vez, un grupo de pescadores se acercó al río para pescar. Los pescadores no sabían que yo vivía en el río, y no se dieron cuenta de mi presencia.
Me acerqué a los pescadores y comencé a gritarles. Los pescadores estaban asustados, y no sabían qué hacer.
Lanzé un tridente a los pescadores, y uno de ellos fue herido. El pescador herido gritó de dolor, y los demás pescadores huyeron.
Me reí de los pescadores, y me alejé.
Yo solo quiero que la mujer que amo sea feliz. Pero si los hombres siguen acercándose a ella, no tendré más remedio que seguir protegiéndola.
El Mohán es un ser peligroso, y es mejor evitarlo. Si ves al Mohán cerca del río, lo mejor es huir.
